Freshers Week at the University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett, and Leeds Trinity is more than just welcome talks. It’s about exploring everything the city has to offer, and in 2025, there’s a packed line-up of events designed to help you settle in. At Leeds Beckett, the Freshers Fairs will run on Monday 15th September at the Headingley Campus and from 16th - 19th September at the City Campus, giving you the chance to join societies, collect freebies, and meet your new classmates. The University of Leeds is also hosting its International Orientation from 15th - 19th September, a week of activities tailored to international students, followed by its full Introduction Week from 22nd - 28th September, packed with campus tours, welcome events, and society tasters.
And of course, Freshers Week in Leeds wouldn’t be complete without some iconic nights out. On 18th September, Society Leeds will host Locked In, a Drum & Bass and UKG night that promises big beats at student-friendly prices. Just a few days later, on 21st September, FCK ME It’s Freshers* takes over Mint Warehouse for one of the biggest parties of the year, bringing students from across the city together for a night to remember. Then on 23rd September, the official Leeds Freshers Welcome Party kicks off, a huge city-wide celebration that marks the start of term for thousands of students. Alongside these, you’ll find smaller events, pub quizzes, and live music scattered across Hyde Park and Headingley, making sure every night has something to offer.
Of course, no Leeds student experience is complete without the legendary Otley Run. This famous pub crawl through Headingley and Hyde Park isn’t tied to a specific date, but Freshers is the perfect time to don a fancy dress costume and join the tradition. It’s the kind of experience that bonds new flatmates instantly and leaves you with stories you’ll still be telling at graduation.
Freshers Week is only the beginning, Leeds is alive with student events all year round. From gigs at the O2 Academy and Belgrave Music Hall to indie film screenings at Hyde Park Picture House, there’s something for everyone. If you’re into clubbing, with venues like Home and Mission. Or fancy something more low-key? Call Lane’s hidden bars are perfect for a quiet drink. While for those who prefer something more laid-back, societies and hobby groups offer a great way to meet like-minded people. Festivals, charity challenges and student-led events also keep the calendar full long after Freshers has ended. And of course, there are an abundance of coffee shops throughout Headingley and Leeds. We can highly recommend Caffeine Addict, located on Otley Road!
With so much going on, it’s easy to get swept up in the buzz. Make sure you carve out time to rest, whether that’s cooking a meal with your housemates, enjoying a quiet film night in, or getting some fresh air with a walk through Meanwood Valley Trail. Keeping on top of your budget is just as important. Luckily, Leeds is full of affordable food spots, student discounts and free events, so you don’t need to blow your student loan in week one.
And of course, everything’s easier when you’ve got the right place to call home. At rentinc, our student houses across Hyde Park, Headingley and Burley are right where the action happens. All-inclusive, fully furnished, and hassle-free. Whether you’re looking for a cosy 3-bed in Headingley or a larger pad near Hyde Park, we’ve got you covered.
